> Located not far from the hotel, discover Chateau Gaillard, the most Italian castle in the Loire valley. In this cradle of renaissance in France, you will admire a collection of 160 orange and lemon trees from unusual varieties. You will also enjoy the quietness of its Italian gardens, where the time seems to stop for our greatest pleasure.
> The unmissable international gardens festival of Chaumont-sur-Loire ! Each year, a new theme is proposed ; this year for the 28th edition of this event : “Heaven Gardens”. For more than 25 years, this laboratory of contemporary creations has been a source of ideas and discoveries of talent.
> West side: Villandry’s direction ! This castle, especially known for its gardens, is one of the last castles of the Loire erected during the Renaissance in the Loire Valley. This area is part of UNESCO World Heritage and you will discover its emblematic, spectacular and formal gardens “à la française” which are the evolution of gardens of the French Renaissance.
> Within walking distance, you could visit the Royal Castle of Amboise and its gardens of Naples and Orient. Do not forget to visit the gravestone of Leonardo da Vinci ; this year is the 500th anniversary of his death and many events are organized on this occasion.
> Shortly after the Royal Castle, continue the visit by staying in the footsteps of the Italian genius by going to Le Clos Lucé, his last home. This beautiful castle is home to a park where you will discover the influence of nature. Leonardo Park will also be a good place to experience Master’s creative world !
> The château de Chenonceau, located 20 minutes by car, is a masterpiece of the Renaissance, with an unique architecture in the world. It will be possible to visit there the gardens “à la française”, the flowers garden, the floral workshop and the amazing labyrinth. In June and at the occasion of 500 years of Renaissance in the Loire Valley, the castle pays tribute to Catherine de Medicis by opening the doors of the apothecary room of the Queen, situated in the same location where it has existed.
A little bit of sport?
> What’s more beautiful than discovering the Loire by canoe! Break out of guaranteed time over on the royal river. Guided day trips are possible. You will see the Loire, fauna and flora from a magical point of view!
> On board of a segway, go through the streets of Amboise. You will navigate around the royal castle, make a stop at Clos Lucé, then gain the heights of the city. From this great point of view, you will have the pleasure to admire an exceptional panorama of the Loire!
> Cyclists will not be left behind thanks to the “Loire by bike” course. We are indeed lucky to be at the foot of this course that runs along the meanders of the Loire. Quiet, exotic and off the axes of main roads, this route is a great asset ! And why not enjoy a picnic along this route? Do not hesitate to ask us ; our Chef can provide you a lunch box adapted to go on an adventure for the day!
> In July and August, the Royal castle of Amboise is pleased to welcome each year a light show called “Amboise’s prophecy”. This new sound and light show will take you back in time, during which you will relive the great hours of the history of the castle. Enjoy this alchemy between multimedia sequences and epic scenes embodied by 250 extras.
> Chenonceau by night! During few days in July and August, the castle opens its doors at 9 p.m. and visitors can discover the gardens sublimated by illuminations and accompanied by the music of the famous German composer Haendel. July 20th, exceptional evening: “wine tasting under the stars”. Château de Chenonceau invites all curious visitors to appreciate the identity of the “Touraine-Chenonceaux” wine designation, at night, as part of the “Promenade Nocturne”, in the illuminated gardens.
> ”The nights of thousand lights” of Villandry will obviously be placed this year under the sign of the Renaissance. Invitation to the walk and to the dream will be inevitable. You will have the pleasure to wander the gardens where costumed walks, animations, projections and fireworks will make the happiness of everybody. However, be carreful ! because the opportunity will be seized only on 2 weekends in July (5th & 6th) and August (2th & 3rd)!
